Valentine's

There are so many ways to say, I love you. But I can't think of any, so here are a few songs and poems that do the job nicely:

  1. Touch me in the morning - Diana Ross
  2. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
  3. Anything by Rumi
  4. Now That I Am Forever With Child - Audre Lorde
  5. Sonnet 22 - Elizabeth Barrett Browning

I recommend this one while you are waiting:

  1. Get it & feel good - Ntozake Shange
  2. Prayer - Nina Cassian
  3. Think Lang - Marion Angus

And if you are fed up with wot you got:

  1. One Perfect Rose - Dorothy Parker
  2. Vicious Circle - Marsha Prescod
  3. Did This Happen To Your Mother? Did Your Sister Throw Up A Lot? - Alice Walker
  4. Dirty No Gooder Blues - Bessie Smith

If you are freshly single...:

  1. Love After Love - Derek Walcott
  2. Advice to a Discarded Lover - Fleur Adcock
  3. 'Honestly, I wish I were dead!' - Sappho

Finally, the kiss off:

  1. Don't Fish in My Sea - Ma Rainey

Thanks for the reminder about Fleur Adcock; haven't heard her name in a while. What a great list - shall investigate further in a quieter moment.
